He Loves His Daughters

Hey y’all! I’m reading through the Bible again but this time verrrrryyyyy slowly and I’ve landed back in what was once dreaded territory, Leviticus. Leviticus has always felt like a lot of rules that don’t really connect to life today but lately, I’ve been asking God, ‘why is this in the Bible’ instead of frowning my way through certain books or chapters. And actually, when you slow down and read it with fresh eyes, you start to see God’s love and care woven through in unexpected ways. Leviticus 12 is one of those chapters.

This chapter talks about purification after childbirth. At first it looks like just another law but there is something deeper here. God was building in a period of rest for women. After childbirth a woman was considered ceremonially unclean, not because she did something wrong, but because God was protecting her recovery and reminding the whole community that life, new life and blood are sacred.

Leviticus 12 tells us something about God’s heart. God values women’s bodies and He created space for them to heal. In a culture, even back then, that often moved on quickly or overlooked women’s pain, God was saying to take time, rest, be cared for. It’s crazy that times haven’t changed much since then in this regard of women’s pain.

Even Mary, the mother of Jesus, went through this purification. That means Jesus was born into a world where God had already made it clear that women matter. Their bodies matter. Their experiences matter.

So what does this mean for us today?

  • God loves His daughters deeply.

  • He sees the cost and sacrifice that come with bringing forth life.

  • He still calls women to rest and renewal, not just work and pouring out.

If you are a woman reading this, be reminded that God sees you. He knows your sacrifices, your pain, and the ways you give of yourself. He values you for who you are, not just what you do.

If you are a man reading this, take this as a reminder to honor the women in your life the way God does, with respect and care. Treat us like a tea cup, ok!

The same God who cared for women in Leviticus 12 is the same God who calls you His beloved today.

Here’s a timely song that I’ve been listening to this week:
